How often do you check your social media platforms? Quite frequently throughout the day.

How important is digital media in your business and personal life? It plays its significant part. Having worked in the digital industry for the last 6 years, it has been astonishing to witness the vast increase in digital media available and this is only set to keep on growing due to consumer demand, accessibility, developments in formats used and advancement in technology. Our lives whether we like it or not are slowly becoming digitised and every day we are leaving our own digital footprint in this digital universe.

 

As a content developer my treasure trove of ideas and traffic generation lies in digital media that is readily available. I rely on social media for the latest scoops on industry trends, breaking news, personal opinions/recommendations and views on particular issues, software, services or products. In addition, I use digital media to enhance my presence, content and brand online. By doing this I am trying to drive traffic with an end goal of attracting advertisers.

How has digital media enhanced your business? By allowing me to sell and promote a virtual service and a product tangibly, telling a story through text, images, audio, video etc.

Do you use digital media to support your chosen charity? At present no, due to time constraints.

How long have you run your business and what is your role? Officially as a freelance writer, for the last 8 months.

Do you use social media to interact with your family or friends? No, I try and not get consumed by social media in my personal life and rely on traditional methods of social interaction such as visiting, sending letters, email, cards and speaking on the phone.

What do you use social media for mainly work or play? Work

How do you use social media for business, social interaction, fun, or current affairs? I use it to generate leads, ideas, analyse audience, trend s in the market and identify target audience.

Do you share your social media updates across all platforms? No, as all promotional messaging is varied to hit different target groups.

Do you have two social media profiles? One for business and one for personal use? 

If yes, why? Yes. Business often does not mix with pleasure and whilst my personality shines through my work, both entities are treated separately.

What topics of interest do you follow via digital media? Everything, but mostly music, culture, arts, lifestyle, religion, online training tools, inspirational talks and events.

Do you use Social media on your mobile phone? No. I spend nearly 16 hours of my day glued behind a laptop/computer screen and fleetingly in between those hours I am perusing social walls. To avoid over consumption, lack of social interaction, I have taken a personal choice to use my phone purely for the purposes it was originally designed for. There has to be a fine balance between peace and commotion and the mind needs that to be able to function is this ever changing digital world.

How important is digital media to your business or personal life? Very important in my business. It is a necessity, needed to enhance whatever it is you are trying to sell or market.

Do you buy or read magazines, journals or newspapers online? I only peruse magazines online.

Do you book your holidays online or go to a travel agent? I always do a comparison price check online and often end up going to the travel agent.

How much of your business and professional life is conducted online? 80%.

Do you read and use social media when on vacation? No, there comes a time when one has to switch off from the clutter.
